KAT System, KAT Technology and Cybernet Media

Monday, November 30th, 2009

I recently enroled the services of Martin Steeper from KAT system or KAT technology. They use a company called Cybernet Media to redirect people who accidentally find American websites to UK equivalent websites and charge a small fee per redirect for this. I would not use this company  KAT System again ever and would not recommend it to anyone based on my experience.

I found the redirects were running but not one person clicked a link on our web page once they reached it. I think this was either some sort of robot not a real person or they came from sites which had no relevance to our content at all. I contacted KAT System and Martin and Anna from the company on several occasions and was fobbed off with “oh we need to speak to IT about this” “I am waiting to hear back” no answer, refund or apology was ever issued. The service offered by KAT Technology and Cybernet System was meant to have a full money back guarantee if not satisfied or if clicks weren’t delivered. I obviously raised this and requested a refund but this has been ignored.

I would steer well clear of this company www.katsystem.co.uk

I hope this is of service in the difficult market of website promotion.

Life Insurance, Joint Life or 2 Single Policies?

Tuesday, November 17th, 2009

If you are buying a house with your partner you will more often than not be recommended a joint life insurance policy as a minimum level of protection for the purchase. This will be the cheapest way to protect your investment for the remaining life, should one of you die. The policy is usually described as “Joint Life First Death”. This means it will pay out on the first claim and then cease. This leaves no life cover remaining for the second life.

You can look at policy’s that have a buy back option so that in the event of a claim life 2 can buy back life cover and continue to be insured for their death. These policies tend to attract extra premiums for the option.

Another way is to consider separate cover for each person and placing the poliy in trust to the remaining life using a flexible trust form. The premiums for single cover will be slightly more, usually within 10% but the benefits are, you get twice the level of cover with the potential payout being double that of a joint life first death policy should the worst happen. Another benefit often overlooked is if you and your partner were to split up you may not wish to keep your joint life insurance policy. Therefore you would require a new life insurance policy later in life when premiums are more expensive. If you had single policies you could maintain them and change the beneficiaries on the trust which in normal circumstances would be cheaper and easier.

Of course we never imagine when entering into a joint house purchase with a partner that we will be splitting up but this way you benefit from double the cover and greater flexibility for little extra cost.

Private Medical Insurance – some questions answered

Friday, November 13th, 2009

What is PMI?

It covers the costs of Private Medical Insurance for curable, short term illnesses or injuries.

Why buy it?

Helps avoid lengthy absences from work and reduces high business costs caused by you having to wait for treatment on NHS.

Convenience – allows you to plan your treatment to suit you, the business and at your chosen hospital.

Provides the benefit of privacy in an en-suite room with TV and other home comforts (no mixed wards).

How much?

Insurers now offer flexible private health cover to suit all budgets – including options where you can select your own premium contributions!

You have the flexibility to apply different benefit levels for various grades of staff.

Discounts are available when NHS and PMI covers are blended.

Is it good for business?

PMI is still considered an attractive benefit by both new and existing employees.

Employee absence is still a significant cost for businesses and PMI does get employees back to work asap –no need to rely on NHS waiting lists.

Staff feel more valued, which improves staff retention.

PMI is currently still a tax deductible business expense.

and finally

The NHS has spent £1.5m on private health treatment for staff over the last 3 years. The statistics released in answer to Freedom of Information request show that over 3000 staff has received private treatment since 2006!!

Employee and Company Benefit Specialists

Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009

I was asked recently by a potential client “are you employee benefit specialists?” A reasonable question I feel. We have worked with many companies and offered group benefits for pension, life insurance / death in service, critical illness, income protection and private medical insurance. Our consultants and administration team have years of experience in dealing with these schemes from advice and planning  to the administration and smooth running of the schemes on a day to day basis.

Does this make us specialists? Technically I believe to be a specialist we would need to be devoted to this particular area of work. We do devote a portion of our team to this area, but as a company we are more diverse. I believe the diversity of our services gives us more of an edge when dealing with a company scheme. We are not only able to help your employees and directors with their employee benefit discussions but also their personal financial needs, such as mortgages, personal protection, tax planning, investments and savings. Our team doesn’t only have experience in company benefits but also personal financial planning.

So our specialists will be specialists to your scheme but in the context of our business offer much more than expertise in employee benefits alone.
